Schools and Colleges are increasingly turning to video to engage audiences and create brand awareness, provide key message information, and drive to a call to action.

We recently created a tour video for long-time client, International House, one of The University of Queensland’s on-campus residential colleges.

The brief was simple: Create a video that provides an insightful and authentic tour of International House as opposed to a disjointed virtual tour with no voice-over. The video is to feature on the website and be used to promote the College on social media.

It was decided that we would shoot a video that takes the viewer on a guided tour of the College starting from the outside to behind-the-scenes, showcasing the key features of International House including the residential rooms, the dining hall, leisure activities, gardens and more.

To make the video relatable, two students were chosen to narrate the video and alternated parts of the tour. The video was scripted for each host and broken into short sections for their on-camera parts. This enabled the hosts to simply remember their lines for their pieces whilst on camera and longer lines were recorded as voice-over off-camera.

Sitting alongside the script was a film story which guided what footage would be shot to accompany the voice-over.

The end result was achieved mostly in one day’s filming, so it was very cost-effective to produce. (International House opted for a photo shoot at the same time to maximise the opportunity of talent, production crew and more.)

International House’s Director Dr Carla Tromans was delighted with the result and said, “Since its upload (without promotion yet) the video has been viewed over 400 times and many people have complimented them on it.”
